Rules & Regulations
Mule
Deer Division
- The Hallettsville Knights of Columbus Big Buck Contest
Mule deer division will run from Saturday November 19 through Sunday
December 11 to cover all Mule deer seasons in the state of Texas. Deadline to enter is Friday, November 18th.
- There will be one mule deer division. This division will cover all Mule deer
hunting areas of the state and all hunters, Youth or Adult.
- Mule deer entries can be purchase either in conjunction
with the Whitetail division entries or as an individual Mule Deer Only
entry. If purchased in conjunction
with the Whitetail division there will be an extra $10.00 charge for the
“Mule Deer Also”. If purchased
separately the charge for “Mule Deer Only” will be $20.00 and will include
admission to the Wild Game Supper and Awards Banquet.
- Mule deer must be a fresh kill (2011 season) and must
have been killed in the state of Texas on open range land. No high fence.
- There will not be a requirement to have a Mule deer
scored within any specified period of time after the kill. Deer may be scored at any time during
the season and must all be scored no later than Sunday December 18 at 6:00
PM. Antlers with skull cap only
will be accepted.
- Deer must be a Mule deer buck harvested during the
"General Gun" season.
“General Gun Season” is
defined as starting November 19, 2011 and ending on December 4, 2011 for
the Panhandle region, November 19 through November 27 for the Southwestern
Panhandle region, and November 25 through December 11 for the Trans-Pecos
region. NO ARCHERY
ONLY SEASON; NO PRE OR POST SEASON
MANAGEMENT DEER
- Scoring
will be based on the total Gross Boone & Crockett score. All Boone & Crockett scoring rules
apply.
- Tie Breaker:
Longest normal point off main beam.
- Second Tie Breaker: Greatest inside spread.
- Mule deer scoring will only be done by one of the
following judges.

Deer must
be legally harvested and properly tagged according to the most recent Texas
Hunting Guide when brought in for measurement.
- Hunters may enter more than one legally harvested buck
in the appropriate divisions, but can only win one prize overall.
- Entries must be legal as defined by the General Gun
Season regulations for a county.
Deer harvested on MLD3 property will be allowed, but must meet the
General Regulations for that County.
i.e. Harvested within the dates of the
General Gun Season & meet any Special Antler Restrictions.
- Bucks that
were ever kept inside a pen for breeding purposes or any other reason are
not allowed. Bucks that are tagged or tattooed for breeding purposes are
not allowed. Bucks cannot have been
raised in a fenced-in area and released.
Bucks considered tame, domesticated, or pet are not allowed.
- The Hallettsville KC Big Buck Committee may administer
lie detector tests. Refusal to
comply or failure to appear for a scheduled lie detector test will be
considered adequate reason for disqualification from the Hallettsville KC
Big Buck Contest.
- Any registered hunter trying to cheat in the
Hallettsville Knights of Columbus Big Buck Contest will be automatically
disqualified, forfeit their prize, and may be banned from entering the
contest for life.
- By entering the contest, you have agreed to comply with
all rules of the contest and all decisions of the KC Big Buck Contest
Committee. All decisions of the KC Big Buck Contest Committee will
be final.
